MCP: managing cost centers and physical card settings

An AI assistant connected to the Spendesk MCP server can now act on two more areas. The server now has 68 tools: 36 that read and 32 that act.

  • Cost centers — create, update and delete them, with create_cost_center, update_cost_center and delete_cost_center. They need the Manage cost centers permission (scope cost-center:manage).
  • Physical card settings — turn online payments, contactless payments and cash withdrawals on or off (update_card_authorisations), set the days and hours a card is usable (update_card_deactivation_schedule), and block merchant categories (update_card_mcc_restrictions). They need the Manage card settings permission (scope experimental:card:write).

Like every write permission, both are off by default: an Account Owner or Admin turns them on in the connection's Permissions tab, then each user disconnects, connects again and ticks them on the approval screen.

Check these before you confirm

  • delete_cost_center archives the cost center, and no tool restores it. A cost center still assigned to other resources is refused: delete it in Spendesk instead, under Settings → Organisation → Cost centres.
  • The deactivation schedule and the blocked merchant categories are replaced as a whole by each call: ask the assistant to show the complete new schedule or list, not only the change.

Try it with a prompt such as:

On the physical card of Jane Doe, turn off cash withdrawals. Show me the card's current authorisations first.

Every tool, with its permission and whether its action can be undone, is in the MCP tool reference and in Assistant actions and safety.
